Fall Fun: Hometown Homecoming and Football

Well September is halfway over and I think it's safe to say we are officially entering FALL around here.  We had a lot of fun with Cooper last Fall and have plans for more fun this year and we kicked off our fall fun this past Friday.  The local High School football stadium is just a couple miles from our house, so we've been talking about going to a football game one Fall, but still hadn't.  So I'd looked at their schedule and seen they were actually playing the school I went to in September, so we made plans to go.

It also happened to be Richardson's Homecoming, so we decided to try out some of the Homecoming festivities.  On Friday afternoon they have a parade down the main street we live off of.  David came home early to go with Coop and I to the parade.  We loaded up the stroller and walked down the street to catch the parade.  They only block off one side of the street, so most of the floats faced the opposite side from where we were sitting.  We had the option of crossing the street, but decided to stay on our side of the road to get home more easily. Probably next time we'll try out the official side!

Cooper's favorite part was when dogs would pass by in the parade.

There were lots of floats from the different organizations at the High School as well as from the surrounding Elementary and Middle Schools and lots of community members.  Cooper had his wave down saying bye bye to everyone as they walked by.

The band was a highlight for sure!  It was such a neat little parade and fun seeing the community all together.

After the parade we grabbed dinner before heading to the game.
We got there a little before kickoff time and settled in to the stands.  I grabbed these pictures of the Richardson side.

The Garland Drill team on the field while the band played the school song.  It was definitely fun being at a game for my High School.  I have only been to one or two since I graduated.  As we were walking up to the stadium I told Cooper all about how much his Grandpa loved Garland Football and all of the games we went to with him.  My dad's been gone 18 years now, but standing at a High School Football game still brings me right back to being with him at the many games we attended together and remembering his excitement over it all! (I blogged about it some here almost 9 years ago!)

Cooper was mostly interested in climbing the bleachers.  He climbed all the way to the top and all the way back down and then found a bench to climb on.  The area we were sitting in was very empty so it was perfect for him to explore... for a minute anyway...

After the school songs, we had enough time to grab a family selfie before they made an announcement that there was going to be a 30 minute lightning delay and everyone had to evacuate the stands and go to the concourse.  So down we went.

We let Cooper run around for a while, but he just wanted to go up to the stands and was mad that he couldn't.  And the lightning kept coming and the sky started getting darker as we waited.  Since it was already past bedtime and we knew the lightning delay kept getting pushed further back with every strike of lightning we decided to go ahead and head home.  It started raining right as we pulled up to our house, so it seemed like good timing.

So our first neighborhood High School Football game was a bust, but it was still fun to get out there together and we'll definitely have to try again soon!
