Orange Beach Vacation: Getting There

We are back from our trip to the beach, so I thought I'd share a little over the next few days about our time.  First up, is our drive to Orange Beach.
We planned a stop at the Buc-ee's in Terrell to grab breakfast and gas on our way out of town.  Cooper loved running around and pushing the carts with us.  We ate breakfast tacos, stocked up on caffeine and hit the road.

I'm planning to do a whole post at the end about all of the activities I planned for Cooper in the car, but here is a glimpse of him looking at his photo book.  He did really well on the first day of driving!
We made it to Mississippi! We had stopped for lunch in Shreveport, so this was our next stop at the Mississippi border.  We got out to take a few pictures and let Cooper run around some.

We planned a night in Jackson, Mississippi on our way to the beach.  We found a hotel just West of Jackson in Clinton.  We got there around 4:30, checked in, grabbed dinner, and then turned in for an early bedtime.  Being in the car messed up Cooper's naps--he actually fell asleep around 11:00 and was up by 11:30 and didn't nap again, so he was more than ready for bed that night!

After we checked out of our hotel, we made a stop at the Jackson Zoo for a little fun before leaving town.  There was a Groupon deal for Zoo admission so it was affordable fun in town.  The zoo was a little run down and we were some of the only visitors there, but there was still a ton to see and do!

Cooper was really interested in all of the animals this time.  The last few times we've gone to a zoo he hasn't really noticed the animals, but this time he did.  He was checking out the hippos here.

Me and my little man.

One of the best things about the zoo is that it had a splash park inside!  So after we saw the animals, we changed Cooper into his bathing suit and let him splash.

He loved running around and playing in the water and they even had a little water slide which he enjoyed a lot.

Happy wet boy!

After the zoo, we changed back into dry clothes and then got lunch before getting on the road.  Cooper crashed as soon as we got in the car and slept for almost an hour-- which is a very long nap for him in the car.  We hit some construction traffic, so our drive down ended up not being quite as quick as we'd hoped, but we still made it to Orange Beach in time for dinner.

Taking in the views from the 21st floor where our condo was!

We had a lot of fun on our trip down to Alabama.  We decided that since driving with a toddler can be a little crazy, we'd just embrace it, plan for lots of stops, and split it up into 2 days with some fun outings along the way.  There were still crazy moments from all of us, but since we were on our way to vacation it was easy to overlook it all!  And we were so glad to see the beach when we got there.

Stay tuned for pictures from Cooper's first dip in the Ocean-- spoiler alert: he was a big fan.
