Save the Date

This year our church is putting an emphasis on strengthening marriages by encouraging couples to go only weekly dates.  They are doing a "save the date" project where they challenge couples to go on at least 3 dates a month (during 3 separate weeks) for the whole year.  You also have to photo document it and submit it either via social media or email.  David and I decided we'd try it out and I've been documenting our dates on my instagram, but thought I'd share them here too!

We had our first date on January 1!  We spent New Years in Oklahoma visiting family and going to a wedding, so we went out the night of January 1 for a movie and then a late night dessert.

For our Second date, we had an at-home date night.  I made one of David's favorite things--biscuit and gravy casserole-- and we used this Dream Guide from Jennie Allen to look back at 2015 and ahead at 2016.  This guide walks through lots of areas (relationships, work, personal growth, spiritual growth, etc) and has you look book at the growth you've seen since last year and look ahead to what you want to see happen in the coming year.  We did this at the beginning of 2015 and it's a good time to refocus with each other and talk through a lot of those things that we don't talk about on a day-to-day basis.

For our 3rd date, we had lunch at Mellow Mushroom.  We took the kids to their visit with their mom and then had a lunch date.  David had never been here before (I'd only been once) and I found a groupon so we decided to try it out.  We got a pizza full of meats and a potato pizza.  It was good spending that time together

And I jokingly posted this one as our date that afternoon as we drove home.  Both kids fell asleep on the drive home and since they won't stay asleep once we get off the highway, we drove in a big loop on the highways around our house for an extra 30 minutes so they'd sleep.  Nothing like a little extra time of peace and quiet--but I don't think it really counts as a date since we couldn't talk much.  Good thing we got our lunch date in that day too!

Looking forward to another year with my favorite guy and all that we will experience together.
